Speech Trek

Speech Trek is one of our favorite activities at AAUW Iron Mountain/Kingsford.
We are pleased to announce that we will hold 2023 Speech Trek on
Wednesday, April 12 at 4:30 at Bay College – Room 236.
Speech Trek is open to all students enrolled in public and private high schools, including home schooled students, in the Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine, Niagara, Florence, West Iron, Forest Park, Iron Mountain, Kingsford, North Dickinson, and Norway school districts.
Interested students must submit the “Speech Trek Student Application and Parent/Guardian Permission Form” by no later than April 5th.

2022-2023 Speech Topic: “What is the most pressing issue (social/political/economic) facing your generation?”
Students are to answer the question, thoroughly research the topic, and support the answer with scientifically-based evidence, including citations. The persuasive speech is to be presented in an impassioned, concise, convincing manner. The speech is to be no shorter than 5 minutes and may not be more than 6 minutes. One 4″ x 6″ note card may be used when delivering the speech. Students that have participated in the contest in the past may not speak about the same issue.
Prizes – First Place $300 ~ Second Place $200 ~ Third Place $100
The winning speech will be presented at our Scholarship Meeting in the Spring.
