About Us

AAUW, founded in 1881, is open to all graduates who hold an associate or higher degree from a qualified educational institution.  AAUW is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with more than 170,000 members and supporters across the United States, with 1,000 local branches and over 800 college and university partners.  AAUW advances gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy.  AAUW is a catalyst for change and empowers all women and girls to reach their highest potential.  Throughout its history, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental education, social, economic, and political issues of the day.
